27 Feb 2011: 河津桜 Kawazu Sakura [photos from 19, 23, 26 Feb 2011]
The cherry trees lining the river that flows down from the Amagi Mountains west of the city of Kawazu 河津 are among the earliest to blossom on Japan's main island of Honshu. The whole town gets cranked up, with lots of locals setting up huts to vend food, drink, and other products to the many visitors come to see.
The cherry trees line both sides of the river for about 3 kilometers, and some sections are lit at night.
