  • Tajima waterfall, near Izu Kogen station, carries water from the eastern slope of the mountainous spine of the Izu Peninsula to the ocean.

  • On the path, the pure white hairs of a flying seed contrast with the dark mud in which it has landed.
  • The Jyogasaki Coast is rugged, with fingers of lava from a series of ancient volcanos that are aligned in two parallel east-west lines just south of the city of Ito. Here at a place called "Tengu no Hana", a deep indentation between rocky promonitories collects boulders pushed inland during storms.
  • I call this spot "the back staircase". After following the coast for a couple of kilometers, the trail turns inland and switchbacks down into a hollow. Of course, then you have to climb the other side to keep going.

13 Mar 2010: Jyogasaki Coast

High winds make for great wave action along the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula this weekend.

Background music is just a little improv - not exactly the same mood as the crashing waves, but the recorded audio track on the video was mostly wind noise.

The guitar is a resophonic instrument made by Paul Beard, of Hagerstown, MD.
